Loving...

... feeding tiny orphaned Wallabies and seeing wee paws gripping The Munchkin's finger...

... my large vintage print also from my friends Nan, ready to "reinvent" with some chalkboard paint...

...starting a grey Tunisian crochet blanket for my bestest friend's baby bump (and realising I seem to have a crochet related injury to my pointer finger - hmm, may need to rest it for a while!) ...

...and reading this beautiful recipe book and making the Pear Ginger & Carrot Chutney recipe. I picked this one up from the library and as I almost always find cookbooks disappointing I was so pleased to have found it to contain drool worthy vintage styling and real recipes. I will be ordering my own copy for sure! Julie is from Auckland NZ and has quite a list of recipe books to her name! Very talented. Oh and the chutney? I am supposed to let it sit for 2 weeks but that is so not going to happen haha! Yummy!

Creating and restoring memories...

It is so nice when friends know you well enough to know what makes you happy. One such lovely friend sent me a message a few days ago to say that her dear Nan was moving into a smaller home and that the family were helping her sort through her things and would I like to have a look. Would I ever!!

It was so nice to talk to her Nan and hear some history of the pieces as well, something missing with Oppie finds usually. We chose the almost perfect original condition 1960's vinyl lounge suite above, that only needs new foam and seat covers after all these years and the coffee table made by my friends uncle when he was young also. These have taken up temporary residence in our reno house.

I also chose this little selection of treasures and can't wait to set them up eventually in our new home. The pie crust mirror has a sailing boat etching and the big tray behind it is an original metal Willow serving tray, perfect for garden tea parties! We will be respraying the little phone/magazine rack, and the shelves and anodised metal planter will stay the same.

There were a few other things which I will show you soon too :)

I recently came across the beautiful blog of Rubyellens called Cakies and found this perfectly simple and effective tutorial for the A-frame tent/cubby we made above. We had the timber already that Mr HMH had rescued from a job he did for his uncle, so only needed to buy the inexpensive dowel. It was finished off with an oppie vintage flannelette sheet and we LOVE IT! Eventually I will customise the cover with windows etc but for now it was a quick, cheap and easy project that all three of us could do together... perfect!

My next project is to tackle some lino cutting with an inspiring and crafty friend who only has a facbook page for now but her blog is coming! I am hoping to print onto these Moleskine journals I bought quite cheaply over here. I know it's not a new concept but I'm keen to give it a try. I haven't lino carved since high school so it should be interesting. I promise not to share any gruesome injuries haha.

Till next time,
Yours in vintage heaven, Allana xxx

hi :) ...

Golly it has been a while hasn't it! Things are happening in High Maintenance Hippy land which have kept me off the computer (but not off my trusty iphone for blog stalking haha!) The biggest news for us is that we finally finished our reno and listed it with our agent today (make that yesterday!) We are super excited to see that sign out the front I can tell you! It is such a relief after all the stress, time, money and relationship punishing turmoil we have experienced in the last almost 3 years. We are now just crossing our fingers that it sells quickly so we can move forward in our lives to the next exciting, and hopefully less traumatic phase. I will do some before and after comparative pics soon I promise!

The more relaxing things I have been up to have included learning Tunisian crochet with the help of Katies tutorial over here, and a little nesting bowl creating and felting which was a very satisfying and quick project.
I have ordered a proper Tunisian crochet hook from here so I can get started on a special blanket for a special wee baby on the way - I haven't crocheted a blanket before, too repetitive for my short attention span I think but Tunisian stitch is so easy and quick I may just manage! ...

Whilst on the subject of etsy shopping I also took this amazing jacket off my wishlist and into my shopping basket after coveting it since its release. I'm hoping it will fit The Munchkin as I have ordered it in the largest size available. It has turned icy cold here and last winters fav jacket is too short in the arms this year sadly. This one is 100% Marino Wool and so scrummy, I would personally love one in my size!...

I also just had these arrive in my letter box which I am super keen to get in the mail scrawled with love letters to a few sweet people. They are absolutely beautiful in person and so textural too ...

The other thing I spent time on recently was publishing this here wee blog into a book, so I could edit/delete some posts. For a while now I have been feeling uncomfortable about having pics of The Munchkin on here and have decided to remove them. I will still post things we do together just not photos of her to protect her privacy. As we are all aware the web isn't the safest place sometimes unfortunately.
I went to Blurb and downloaded their software and spent a painful and frustrating 10 HOURS!!! editing and wrestling with it to make my blog read cohesively and have the photos in sequence with it constantly dropping out and deleting 30 odd pages of editing at a time...grrr... However the end result is a thing of beauty printing wise, and took a speedy record time of 1 week from San Francisco to Tasmania to arrive.
I am so glad to have one whole year of our family recorded so nicely and it will be a lovely thing to look back on in years to come. As they charge in brackets of page numbers I took the count up to 240 pages so  have some blank pages to add in things like photos that were too personal for publishing on here, or tickets/leaves etc collected over the 12 months.

And Yes! I did say 1 year! I can't believe it has been that long! I feel so honoured and lucky to have formed friendships with many of you and to be able to share in this amazing online community! When I first started this blog journey I really only ever thought it would be family and friends reading and for our family records but I am so honoured that you lovely folks have stopped by, and stayed reading. It is a constant surprise and delight! Thankyou more than you will ever know! :) xx

Yours in exhaustion, xxx
