Elderflower cordial...

Earlier this year I purchased and planted a small Elderflower. I have since recognised that we had a rather large bush/plant in our chicken run and that all around our neighbourhood are various sized plants obviously bird seeded some years ago. I remember noticing the dark berries last year and trying to find out some info via Mr Google but giving up and deeming them toxic... silly me!

Over the weekend we had a little pick from a tree hanging over my Nan's fence, a little pick from a tree in the block opposite and a little pick from our tree and following Tanya's excellent recipe we made some gorgeous golden, fragrant, lemony Elderflower cordial. We used a little bit that didn't fit in the bottles to make some jelly with one of those black add-your-own-juice packets from the supermarket, and served it with some Meander Valley double cream... soooo decadent and tasty!

If you have access to some flowers I highly recommend stocking your pantry with this delicious treat :)

Allana

  1. Ooh, sounds lovely! I purchased a plant a few months ago, it's still in the pot but I must get in in the ground soon.

I saw on the River Cottage show Hugh make some elderflower champagne, that could also be lots of fun. Hic!

  2. Glad you were able to make yourself a good batch. I ran out of my recycled beer bottles which I cap and used a couple of gin bottles with screw caps. I washed them and sterilised them the same as the other bottles but a couple of days later they were fizzing. I don't know if there was contamination from somewhere or whether the screw caps didn't seal airtight??? For safety sake I tipped them down the sink...boo :( I'd appreciate feedback on how your screw caps go as I don't know for sure where the fail was. I am going to have to get my hands on some more bottles....and more elder flowers, divine!

  4. Maintenance pricing is a percentage of the SRP of the product for which maintenance is being purchased for the first twelve months typically around 20.Maintenance ProgramsMaintenance will always be quoted as a percentage of SRP rather than of netor purchase price. Purchasing twenty-four months of maintenance and support is a better option from a pricing standpoint,if you would like the longer term coverage. Pricing for maintenance terms beyond twenty-four months will be provided upon request.

  5. I tried Elderflower cordial for the first time this month and absolutely LOVED it! Then we were given a cutting so we could plant our own Elderflower tree and promptly lost it :( We'll definitely have to get another one. I'd love to have my fridge stocked with Elderflower treats all summer long!
